Batignolles is an up-and-coming residential neighborhood, full of fun shops and hip restaurants. It is overlooked by the Montmartre hill, with the Sacré-Coeur. This used to be a village outside the city limits. During the 19th century, Montmartre attracted many French and international authors and artists. To this day, many of its residents are creatives. The area is known for its street painters and illustrators. Its world-famous squares and busy streets are interspersed with charming little alleys and secluded spots, where the small-town feel remains.
