Schöneberg, in former West Berlin, is what Prenzlauer Berg is to the East. Here, you'll find scenic squares lined with stately old homes, numerous cafés and coffee houses, and Berlin's biggest market. This neighborhood also has some beautiful antique stores, wonderful for browsing.
David Bowie wrote a few of his most popular songs in Schöneberg, Marlene Dietrich was born here, and Kennedy held his famous ‘Ich bin ein Berliner’-speech in the Schöneberg Rathaus (city hall). Nowadays, this is mostly known as the heart of gay Berlin, with more LGBT bars than anywhere else in the city, and colorful rainbow flags adorning the streets.
