What are you going to do?

ABOUT THE TOUR

This tour takes you along all the highlights in the old center of Amersfoort. Avoid the commercial Langestraat and dive into the cozy alleys full of shops and cafés, or walk over the Muurhuizen between the monuments. After the lively Krommestraat you walk underneath the Koppelpoort toward De Nieuwe Stad. The tour ends at this new industrial hotspot.

THE CITY

Amersfoort has two faces. On one side there’s the historical heart of the city, with many monuments and the medieval center. On the other side, Amersfoort is more and more developing into a town where young creative people love to settle. Due to this, here you find beautiful old buildings as well as new, creative breeding grounds.

The old center is characterized by alleys and monumental properties with the highlight being the Muurhuizen. When walking past this half circle of old buildings that have remained intact, you feel as if you’ve stepped into a different time.

An abundance of life can be found in the Krommestraat, which is bursting with original stores and cozy cafés. Furthermore, the center includes three large squares. On the Onze Lieve Vrouweplein and De Hof there’s something for every taste. During the day, the terraces are pleasantly crowded. Besides, the people of Amersfoort love to come here on weekends, to visit a pub or to go dancing together. The Groenmarkt is a somewhat smaller and quieter square, with a handful of bars and a band stand on which bands perform during summer.

Just outside the Singel in the North-West lies the new, creative part of town. Here you find the modern block building of the Eemhuis, the urban beach of Zandfoort aan de Eem and De Nieuwe Stad.

The area of De Nieuwe Stad is constantly in development. Old factory buildings are getting new destinations. The former Prodent factory for example has been transformed into a creative breeding ground with many workshops, a pop podium, and a food hall.
