What are you going to do?

ABOUT THE TOUR

This tour leads along many addresses and thus offers a good impression of the various generations and cultures that live alongside each other in Utrecht’s compact center. Starting at the famous sights at the Oudegracht, Neude and the Dom Square, you walk through the trendy Voorstraat to end up at the modern Griftpark in the popular Wittevrouwen district.

THE DISTRICTS

Everyone knows Utrecht from its canals and the Dom Tower: the two iconic tourist attractions. Partially because of the start of the Tour de France and positive mentions in international city break lists, ever more tourists are discovering the sights of Utrecht’s city center. The parts of town where the locals love to come often are just one street away from the tourist attractions, with many cafes and original boutiques.

Utrecht is a real student city: one out of five inhabitants is a student. This is reflected in the large offer of student bars on Neude, but also in the classic street Drift. This street is full of university buildings including the gorgeous University Library. The generation that has just completed its student-days has found a place in the Voorstraat. Before, this street had a slightly shabby image, due to its many coffee shops and the people that were attracted by the prostitutes in the Hardebollenstraat, a side street of the Voorstraat. Meanwhile the windows have been closed and more and more young entrepreneurs are settling in this part of town. The result is a lively street full of coffee and salad bars and vintage clothing stores.

In the extension of the Voorstraat lies the Biltstraat, the central shopping street in the Wittevrouwen district. A very popular district, where double-income couples with kids take up residence in the beautiful homes from the 30s. Wittevrouwen is home to many delis and quality restaurants.
