Time to Momo is a firm believer in putting people in control over their data. That’s why we have made a sincere effort to be completely transparent about our interests and practices. We hope it helps you make well-informed decisions when it comes to giving or revoking consent.

At the same time, you share a lot of information with us and it is up to us to handle that as mindfully as possible.

Your data helps Time to Momo's mission

We have a bold mission: to make the platform economy a more social one. With this mission, we stand up to the practices of large platforms and how they prioritise profit over people.

In order to develop a website that is so strong that it can successfully compete with the large booking platforms, we store, process and share anonymous and personal information about you. With this information we can craft a website that meets your needs and treat you in the best possible way, and it also helps us to improve the way we reach out to other people.

We may process your information if you visit our website, use our platform to book a room, subscribe to our mailing list or get in touch with us for another reason. We are the data controller for all processing of personal data through our platform, which means that we are–and feel!–responsible for all your personal details flowing through our website.

We will shortly explain for each category of processing what personal data we process and why we do so, and what your rights are.

1. Website visitor's data

As you may have guessed, we use cookies and related technologies on our website. This means that we store, access and share personal and anonymous information on your device while you are visiting our website.

We identify three categories: functional and statistical cookies, analytical cookies, and marketing cookies. Below we explain which cookies belong to each category and how you can grant or deny your consent.

Functional and statistical cookies

We use functional and statistical cookies for the proper functioning of our platform, to provide our services, and to gather statistics.

The legal ground for the use of these cookies is our legitimate interest, which is to help you and other travellers in the best possible way, and to reward our affiliate partners fairly. That’s why we always set these cookies automatically when you use our website, without requiring your consent.

Below we describe for which purposes we gather data, and which data is involved.

First and foremost, we use cookies and related technologies to make your website experience more enjoyable. They enable the website to remember basic but important information, settings and preferences, so you won’t have to share it again and again.

For instance: when you visit Time to Momo, the site stores data that helps to identify you as a unique user. If you leave Time to Momo and visit again later, the website will recognise you as a returning user. Time to Momo can then remember the rooms you added to your cart last time you visited, even though you might not have completed your booking.

Functional cookies also make sure you don’t have to re-enter your preferences like language, currency, login information, and your cookie consent preferences. So without these cookies, your website experience would be much different.

We are confident that everything goes smoothly when you visit our website. It might still occur that a question or issue arises. In that case we are here to help. We have support pages with information to get you back on track and we provide several options to contact us directly. In any of these cases you interact with our support tool Hubspot.

It depends on the medium you use to contact us what cookies are set for this purpose. They may be used to track the pages you visit, remember your name and relevant contact and booking details, the information you provide to us and our conversation history. These cookies ensure that you don’t need to provide this information each time you contact us and to help you in the best possible way, of course.

We take great pride in building the best possible website. That’s why we gather statistics about the performance of the site. For example how most people found our website (via a search engine, social media or link on another website), how often each page is visited, how much time was spent, and how many people complete the booking process. These statistics help us understand what works and what needs improvement.

To do this we use Google Analytics. This is a tool offered by Google that helps us collect, analyse, and report on website traffic data. They set several cookies which include a unique identifier, so we know whether you’re a first time visitor or a returning visitor. We have configured Google Analytics in the most privacy-friendly way, as recommended by the Dutch data protection authority.

This means that:

a. we have a data processing agreement with Google;
b. the last three digits of your IP address will be masked;
c. Google may not use the data collected through our website for other purposes, unless you give your consent for marketing cookies;
d. we do not use other Google services in combination with Google Analytics-cookies, unless you give your consent for marketing cookies.

We’re convinced that we can only be successful when we work together with partners. That’s why there’s an increasing number of partner websites linking to Time to Momo. We call these affiliates. When you click on a link on one of our affiliates’ websites, we reward them when you actually make a booking. We think that’s fair, because the more often Time to Momo is found, the faster we realise our mission.

To be able to reward our affiliates, it is vital that Time to Momo registers which affiliate referred you and in case you don’t book during the first visit, to recognise you as a return visitor. That’s why we store a referral code if you have reached us through one of our affiliates.

Analytical cookie

We use analytical cookies to collect data and feedback about your behaviour and experience on our website, so we can improve it. As mentioned earlier: the better our website, the sooner we reach our mission.

We will set analytical cookies only when you give us your consent. You can do this from the cookie banner that appears upon your entry of the website, by ticking the ‘Analytical’ checkbox and then clicking the ‘Accept selected’ button, or by clicking the ‘Accept all’ button.

Below we describe for which purposes we gather data, and which data is involved.

Hotjar
In addition to Google Analytics, we use Hotjar to get deeper insights in the behaviour of people on our website. We could say that Google Analytics gives us the numbers, Hotjar gives us the story behind the numbers.

Hotjar records, for example, how people navigate through our site, where they click, how far they scroll down, how they handle the booking process and where they get stuck. It also enables us to send questionnaires to visitors in specific situation to get an even better understanding of why visitors behave like they do.

Hotjar uses cookies and other technologies to collect this type of data. This data includes the IP address of the device (processed during your session and stored in an anonymised form), screen size of the device, device type (unique device IDs), browser information, geographic location (country only) and the preferred language used to display our website.

Hotjar stores this information on our behalf in a pseudonymised user profile. Of course, Hotjar is contractually prohibited from selling data collected on our behalf.

Amplitude
We also employ Amplitude, an analytics tool that is particularly good at exploring how people use our website. This helps Time to Momo to improve the website and user experience by taking action from data-driven insights.

Amplitude sets one or more cookies with a generated unique user ID. This is mainly used to identify you as the same user when you make a repeat visit to our website. Amplitude also stores your IP address and some device characteristics, such as device type, operating system, and language. Read more on their website about the data that Amplitude stores.

Hubspot
To provide customer service to you or, if you are a (potential) partner, to collaborate with you we might place cookies on certain parts of our website, such as our FAQ pages. These cookies track which pages you visit and other behaviour on our website. We might store this information in a profile in Hubspot if we have contact with each other. This way we can provide the best service and optimise our communications.

Time to Momo is continuously improving the website. We add new features or content, or change existing ones. And sometimes we think about making just a small change—perhaps changing the text on a button, because we assume it is clearer or more attractive. All these changes have effects, so before we introduce them to all visitors, we’d like to do a test run with just a small portion of them. This small group is shown the new variant “B” on the website, instead of the existing version “A”. We measure the effects, and the winner stays 🙂

This is called A/B testing. For this purpose, we use Google Optimize. Google Optimize sets a cookies to remember which tests you are part of and when these end. It might also set cookies when you visit our sites via clicking on a Google ad or other promotional campaign, so it knows exactly which ad or campaign brought you here.

Marketing cookie

Marketing cookies allow us and third parties to track your behaviour, match your profile and show you personalised content or advertisements on other platforms.To be able to hit a dent in the market for hotel stays, Time to Momo needs to make the most progress possible. This not only means developing a great website, but also engaging as many people as possible to choose us over the larger booking platforms.

Advanced forms of online marketing are crucial to achieve this, which involves the sharing of personal data with third parties such as Meta, Google, LinkedIn and Pinterest.

With these activities, we pledge to always consider your privacy, to handle your data with care, and to be fully transparent about our practices.We will set marketing cookies only when you give us your consent. We do everything in our power to spend our advertising budget in the most effective way. The goal of advertising is to attract more people to Time to Momo and grow the number of bookings for the lowest possible costs. So the better the advertisements, the more bookings, to simplify it.

Sharing personal data with advertisement platforms makes it possible to trace which (variant of an) ad leads to a booking or other specific actions on our website. This helps to improve the messaging, targeting, placement and personalisation of future advertisements, hence increasing their effectiveness.

We run advertisements on various digital platforms. These include: Google, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Pinterest.

Google
Google uses cookies for advertising, including serving and rendering ads, personalising ads (depending on your ad settings at
g.co/adsettings), limiting the number of times an ad is shown to a user, muting ads you have chosen to stop seeing, and measuring the effectiveness of ads.

Your web browser automatically sends certain information to Google. This includes the URL of the page that you’re visiting and your IP address. Google may also set cookies on your browser or read cookies that are already there.

Google uses the information shared by sites and apps to deliver their services, maintain and improve them, develop new services, measure the effectiveness of advertising, protect against fraud and abuse and personalise content and ads that you see on Google and on their partners’ sites and apps.

Meta (Facebook, Instagram and Audience Network)
We share information with Meta from cookies, whether or not you have an account or are logged in with one of Meta’s platforms. Unlike cookies that are set on Meta’s own domains, these cookies aren’t accessible by Meta (or any other party than Time to Momo, for that matter). They serve the same purposes as cookies set in Meta’s own domain, which are to personalise content (including ads), measure ads, produce analytics and provide a safer experience.

LinkedIn
Cookies and similar technologies help LinkedIn to show relevant advertising to you more effectively, both on and off LinkedIn and to measure the performance of such ads. They use these technologies to learn whether content has been shown to you or whether someone who was presented with an ad later came back and took an action (e.g., downloaded a white paper or made a purchase) on another site. Similarly, we may use these technologies to determine whether we’ve shown an ad or a post and how it performed or provide us with information about how you interact with ads. LinkedIn also receives information about your visits and interaction on Time to Momo.

Pinterest
We may share information with Pinterest to measure, report on or improve the performance of ads on Pinterest, or to figure out what kinds of ads to show you on or off Pinterest. This includes information about your visits to an advertiser’s site or purchases you made from them, or information about your interests from a third-party service, which we might use to help show you ads.

Not every traveller is the same. The reality is that some travellers are more attracted to Time to Momo than others. You can imagine that we’d prefer reaching people that are most likely to like us. By sharing personal data with advertisement platforms, we are able to target groups of people that are similar to those who already like Time to Momo, visit our website and book with us (like you?).

We run advertisements on various digital platforms. These include: Google, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Pinterest. For more detailed information on which data is shared with each specific platform, see ‘Increase the effectiveness of advertisements’.

When you subscribe via one of our forms for our mailing list, click on a link in one of our emails or make a booking, we may place cookies that keep track of your behaviour on our website after you perform one of these actions. This way we enrich your profile with which pages on our site you visited, which rooms you added to your ‘shopping cart’, if you started the checkout process and if you made a booking. We do this using Omnisend and ActiveCampaign.

We use this information so that we can send you personalised messages. For example, if you do not complete the checkout process, we may send you a reminder to do so. We also use this information to make our marketing messages more relevant to you. You will only receive these if you have signed up for them, of course.

If you visit the part of our website that is dedicated to our partners, with information and opportunities to collaborate with us, we might place a cookie to gather information on when you visit which pages. We might store this data in our CRM-tool called Hubspot and link this information to your contact details, if we have been in contact with you previously.

2. Travellers’ data

We try to limit our personal data processing as much as possible, so any information we ask you to provide during the booking process will be necessary to provide you with our services. If you are not willing to provide information we request, you cannot book an accommodation through our platform.If you book a room at one of the accommodations we list, we will process certain information about you. This information will be used for several purposes, each listed below, which all relate to the processing of your booking (or, in legal terms: the processing is necessary for the performance of a contract to which the data subject is a party). We will process the following types of personal data, for the purposes listed below:

- your name
- e-mail address and password
- telephone number
- accommodation and booking details
- information whether your payment was successful
- booking history
- remarks and requests for your accommodation
- travel party size and age of childrennames of your fellow travellers
- reviews
- interaction with us, such as through our customer service
- other personal information you have provided to us

We will share this information with the accommodation you book with. This happens via an email to the accommodation (we use Postmark) and via a database connection (we use connectivity partner OpenGDS or service operating company Hotelbeds) so your information also comes directly into the accommodation’s room management system.

When you make a payment, this is handled by our payment service provider Stripe. Stripe is a separate company that takes care of all the connections with the financial institutions involved (such as banks).

To manage the payment, Stripe needs to have information about the price, the name of the accommodation, the reservation ID and your email address, which we share with them. Stripe may need to share this data with these financial institutions to process your payment.

After you complete your booking, we need to send you a couple of emails so you have all important information and to be sure you will have the best possible experience. Among these e-mails is your booking confirmation with all the details you will need from then on. The same goes for perhaps a cancellation: we’ll confirm that via e-mail as well. To send such functional emails, we use email service provider Postmark. We may track which messages you open when, which links you click and may track which actions you perform on our website depending on your cookie settings. This helps us to personalise and improve these messages as much as possible.

In addition to the purposes listed above, we use data related to your bookings with us for several other purposes. The legal ground for these types of processing is that they are necessary for the purposes of our legitimate interests, including marketing and our agreements with accommodations.

We will share this information with the accommodation you book with. This happens via an email to the accommodation (we use Postmark) and via a database connection (we use connectivity partner OpenGDS or service operating company Hotelbeds) so your information also comes directly into the accommodation’s room management system.

We may also use your e-mail address and phone number to send you special offers, tips for nice places to stay at and other cool stuff, unless you let us know that you do not wish to receive our marketing messages, of course. For marketing emails and text messages we use email service provider Omnisend and ActiveCampaign. We store your email address, phone number, name and booking history here. We may track which messages you open when, which links you click and may track which actions you perform on our website depending on your cookie settings. This helps us to personalise and improve these messages as much as possible. You can always choose which of these messages you want to receive, or unsubscribe altogether, via the link at the bottom of each message.

We may send personal information such as your email address (hashed), phone number (hashed) and booking details to advertisement platforms that we use, like Meta, Google, LinkedIn and Pinterest. This makes it possible to trace which (variant of an) ad led to a booking. This helps to improve the messaging, targeting, placement and personalisation of future advertisements, hence increasing their effectiveness. It also gives us the possibility to exclude you from certain advertisement campaigns, since you have already booked, and to improve the targeting of ads to people that have a similar profile.

We may also use these data if we are legally required to do so, for example to comply with tax laws. This means that we have to share some information with tax services and other government organisations.

The data may also be used in case of a dispute. In this unlikely event, some information may have to be shared with courts and other dispute resolvers.

3. Mailing subscribers’ data

We regularly send out a newsletter to everyone who is interested in our platform, as well as e-mail and text messages to keep you up-to-date on new features, special offers, tips for nice places to stay at and other cool stuff.

We offer various ways to opt-in for these messages. One of them is to subscribe via this page. You can always choose to unsubscribe, via the link at the bottom of each message.

When you subscribe, we store the email address and/or phone number that you provided. This processing is necessary for the performance of a contract to which you are a party (which sounds rather formal for a simple newsletter subscription).

We also track which messages you open when, which links you click and may track which actions you perform on our website depending on your cookie settings. This helps us to personalise and improve these messages as much as possible.

We may send personal information such as your email address (hashed), phone number (hashed) and booking details to advertisement platforms that we use, like Meta, Google, LinkedIn and Pinterest. This gives us the possibility to include or exclude you from advertisement campaigns and to improve the targeting of ads to people that have a similar profile. 4. Data regarding your interactions with us

If you contact us for support, general questions or just a chat, you share personal data with us that we will process. And for security purposes, we also monitor some data that’s related to you. Here’s why we do that, and what happens with that data.

We’re always eager to help. We offer several ways to get in touch with us, including email, online forms, chat and telephone—take your pick.

It depends on the medium you choose what personal data we process. In all cases, we process your name, relevant contact and booking details and any other information you provide to us.

If you contact our customer support, your data will land in Hubspot, a customer service tool which facilitates the communication between you and our support team. In case we need to contact one of our partners or suppliers to answer your question or resolve your issue, we might share data with them as well.

In case we answer your inquiry in writing, for example via e-mail or text messages, we may track when you open our messages and which links you click. If we have a phone call, we might store your phone number and other information about the call such as the time and duration of the conversation.

The legal ground for this sort of processing is always our legitimate interest, which is to help you in the best possible way. We guess that this nicely aligns with your interests!

We also log your IP address and information about your browser, device and operating system. We store this information for a limited time (less than two weeks) in our server logs, as it helps us to prevent DDOS attacks and other abuse of our website. We think that this is a legitimate interest of ours.

5. Data regarding our partners’ contact persons

If you are a contact person representing a partner, you may share personal data with us that we process. We regard many types of organisations as our partners: accommodations, destination marketing organisations, event organisers, affiliates, or basically any other organisation that we (intend to) collaborate with. Here’s why we do that, and what happens with that data. All processing in this regard is necessary for the purposes of our legitimate interests.

To be able to join our affiliate program we need at least the name and email address of one contact person. We store this information in our affiliate program software called Tapfiliate. We also use this information to send you news and updates about our affiliate program.

We may contact you regarding a (potential) collaboration with your organisation. For that purpose we might store the messages that you and we send in our CRM-tool called Hubspot. We might also store your name, email address and other contact details. We might also track which messages you open when and which links you click. If we have a phone call, we might store your phone number and other information about the call such as the time and duration of the conversation.

When you click on a link in one of our emails leading to our website, we may place cookies that keep track of your behaviour on our website after you perform one of these actions. This way we enrich your profile with information about the pages you visited on our site.

How long we store your data

We will store your personal data as long as necessary for the purposes mentioned above. If you make a booking, we will retain information needed for future bookings and to find out whether you are a repeat traveller. Certain financial information must be retained for longer periods in order to comply with statutory requirements.

Sharing your data with other parties

Your personal data will only be shared with other parties if that is necessary for the purposes we listed above, and in any other case only with your consent. The parties that we may transfer your personal data to are listed below each purpose.

Parties we share your personal data with can be based in countries where the GDPR does not apply, meaning that less protective data protection laws may apply. We will ensure that if this is the case, the parties we share your data with will agree to contractual terms or other measures to protect your personal data. You are of course free to contact us in case of any questions about our data sharing and the safeguards provided. necessary for the purposes mentioned above. If you make a booking, we will retain information needed for future bookings and to find out whether you are a repeat traveller. Certain financial information must be retained for longer periods in order to comply with statutory requirements.

We keep your data safe

We have taken appropriate measures in order to protect your personal data against unlawful processing. In addition to the usual technical security measures, we require all our staff who have access to personal data to agree to confidentiality agreements.

What you can do

You always have the right to request access to the personal data we store about you, and to request rectification, erasure or restriction of processing. You may also object to any of our processing, and you have the right to data portability.

If you are not satisfied with our processing of your personal data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, or your local data protection authority.

How we make changes to this policy

We may change this policy from time to time and if we do, we’ll post any changes on this page. If the changes are significant, we may provide a more prominent notice or, if necessary, get your consent.
