For the vibrant, historic heart of Stockholm, Gamla Stan is the place to be. Many people stroll its narrow streets and alleys every day. Especially in summer, the main street Västerlånggatan is teeming with people. The more original or specialised shops with, for example, handicrafts or mackintoshes can be found mainly in the alleys off the main street, such as Österlånggatan and Köpmangatan. In and around Stora Nygatan and Lilla Nygatan streets, more and more new bars and gastropubs are popping up, ensuring that Stockholmers themselves find Gamla Stan again.
