Sun worshippers, beach boys & girls and families with children: La Barceloneta is the district for beachgoers.
This old fishing district is the ideal area if you want to discover Barcelona in a summery way. When the city beach was built for the 1992 Olympics, La Barceloneta turned into a hotspot for tourists. In high season, it won't always be easy to find a spot for your towel. Fish and paella lovers are in the right place. Here you order traditional tapas in one of the many noisy bars and eat the tastiest street food, while laundry flutters on balconies and neighbours chat with each other. The old port, with its Museu d'Història de Catalunya, is also worth a visit.
