Sant Antoni is upcoming. It started with gastro bars and hipster cafés, now more and more shops are opening their doors too.
This is the ideal district if you want to discover Barcelona from a slightly less touristy spot and if eating out well is high on your list of priorities. It is not a district of famous sights, but that has its advantages: you are often among only locals. The modernist Mercat de Sant Antoni forms the lively centre. There is a second-hand book market on Sunday mornings. The Carrer del Parlament is also worth a visit. In recent years, one restaurant after another has opened its doors on this street. The result is a hugely diverse culinary offer, usually of excellent quality.
