Abondo is the ideal neighbourhood if you want to shop till you drop in a quiet area or enjoy visiting a museum. In this neighbourhood, you get a good sense of how Bilbao has developed since the late 19th century. Urban expansion has lent grandeur to the streetscape: wide avenues lined with beautiful buildings, varied architecture and leafy squares. This area is primarily residential and commercial, with the more distinctive shops mainly located outside the Gran Vía. Here you’ll also find the Guggenheim and the modern Republic Park. You can stroll or cycle along the river at your leisure; the riverbanks have been thoroughly renovated.
