Be surprised by the creative winds that blow through these multicultural, historic neighbourhoods and typify post-industrial Bilbao.
This is your district if you love a vibrant urban atmosphere full of street art and original shops and cafés. Together with Casco Viejo, Bilbao la Vieja is Bilbao's oldest neighbourhood. With the mining of iron ore, it enjoyed great economic opulence until the mid-20th century; then deterioration followed. Ten years ago, a great recovery was started, with restoration of (factory) buildings and influx of creatives. You can now find studios, fun shops, hipsters and lots of cafés, restaurants and street food. Adjacent San Francisco, once a monastery, is now a melting pot of cultures. Here you will find most of the street art.
