De Bergen is Eindhoven's cosiest neighbourhood due to the large number of cool shops and nice places to eat. Always something to do!
The centre has had a tough time because of war destruction and demolition in the 1960s-70s. You will find many modern buildings but also some striking buildings from the Philips heyday. Expats and students abound here. In the De Bergen district, the atmosphere is very different. It still has some historic buildings, where the more unusual shops and small independent eateries are located. The Bergstraat and Kleine Berg are known as the chicer streets, full of restaurants and boutiques.
