Sant’Ambrogio is the neighbourhood for you if you want to explore Florence from an area that tourists haven’t discovered yet. This working-class neighbourhood is brimming with lovely shops, restaurants and bars. In the morning, it’s a hive of activity around the Mercato di Sant’Ambrogio, whilst in the afternoon and evening it has a cosy atmosphere thanks to the young people who come to shop, eat or go out. Be sure to visit the old Le Murate prison complex for a drink. If you’re a fan of antiques and vintage items, do visit the traditional Mercato delle Pulci (flea market) on Largo Pietro Annigoni.
