The gigantic Great or St Bavo Church on the Grand Place characterises this district and from here many little streets lead to the nicest shops, hippest coffee bars and finest restaurants. If you look carefully, you will discover the hidden courtyards that are so characteristic of Haarlem. Culture vultures like to come here for the Frans Hals Museum and the Teylers Museum and drink lovers can choose from one of the many terraces along the river Spaarne.
