Schanzenviertel & Karolinenviertel

This is the neighbourhood for you if you’re looking for a different kind of atmosphere. The Schanzenviertel used to be a poor working-class neighbourhood. Now it’s a trendy nightlife district in Hamburg that’s always buzzing. The cafés are shabby-chic and the people are young, trendy and laid-back. Right next door is the Karolinenviertel, where the shops are even more eccentric. There’s a flea market every Saturday on the Schlachthof site. In Marktstraße, the main street of the Karolinenviertel, you’ll find countless cafés (including those serving food) and shops run by young, creative start-ups.
