Southwark is a diverse, historic district for culture lovers, art connoisseurs and foodies.
For an interesting, raw and slightly more urban neighbourhood, Southwark, south of the Thames, is the place to be. This side of London has always looked a bit underwhelming compared to the north. Nevertheless, there are many impressive sights here, such as the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, Tate Modern, City Hall and Southwark Cathedral. In this neighbourhood, the first theatres were built in the 16th century, such as The Globe, where Shakespeare's first plays were shown. Borough Market is a must for anyone who loves good food. There is no shortage of good food and nice cafés in the rest of the district either.
