Walking through Vauban will cultivate a good set of calves, but your efforts will be rewarded with panoramic views of the city.
Through winding streets and the busy Rue Breteuil, you arrive in the Vauban neighbourhood. This neighbourhood used to be a village in its own right, but is now hemmed in by the big city. The village feel is still very much in the air here; in the central street, Boulevard de Vauban, you will find the baker, the cheese shop, the bookshop, the church and several good lunches. And the boulodrome, at the top of the district, next to the park, was of course not to be missed. A little further up is the Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde, symbol of the city of Marseille. Here, the city and the sea are at your feet.
