The best view of Porto is from Gaia!
If you’re coming for a bit of fun and to sample some delicious port, then this is the neighbourhood for you. On the south bank of the Douro lies Vila Nova de Gaia; commonly known simply as Gaia. This is where the wine merchants built their warehouses and cellars along the quayside. The bishop at the time charged high duties on trade from Porto, and these could be avoided in Gaia. In fact, most port was exported directly from the Douro Valley via Gaia to other countries – and never even set foot in Porto. Here, you can sample delicious ruby, tawny and vintage Port. From Jardim do Morro, you have a superb view of the city.
