To experience the heart of the city, you need to be in the city centre. When people think of Rotterdam’s city centre, many immediately think of the Lijnbaan and the Koopgoot. Fortunately, the city centre has more to offer than just shopping. In May 1940, it was largely destroyed in a German air raid. Reconstruction followed rapidly after the bombing, resulting in the modern cityscape we see today. The city centre is brimming with culture, but you can also enjoy good food in the many pubs and restaurants and have a great night out. When you alight at Rotterdam Centraal station, the city lies at your feet.
