Here you’ll still find the working-class neighbourhood of yesteryear, with its 19th-century houses and numerous little squares. The River Rotte, from which the city takes its name, emerges here and emphasises the neighbourhood’s distinctive character. In recent years, the Oude Noorden has developed, partly thanks to entrepreneurs keen to put the area on the map. As a result, it is now one of Rotterdam’s most interesting neighbourhoods.
