Apart from shopping 'on the Fred', looking at houses here is also a treat: every house seems slightly different, with surprising details.

Around 1900, The Hague's urban area expanded towards Scheveningen. Just about the entire district was therefore built in the ornate Art Nouveau style. The Statenkwartier, popular with expats, is the area where Jacob Cats' Sorghvliet estate is located. Not to be missed is the building of the Kunstmuseum Den Haag, designed by Berlage, whose completely unique style stands out quite a bit among the uniform style of the rest of the district. Statenkwartier is actually a city within a city. A little bit cacophonous, but there is art and culture, you can drink, eat, shop and even the dunes and beach are close by.
