See a fine example of urban renewal, such as Huijgenspark and Oranjeplein, and marvel at the numerous cosy courtyards.
For a slightly rawer urban neighbourhood that is full on the rise, the Station District is the place to be. Do you know the history of the 'Kop van Jut'? In 1872, a certain Hendrik Jut killed a widow and her maid. The from then infamous Bocht van Guinea in The Hague's Stationsbuurt was quickly renamed Huijgenspark, and the name of the murderer Hendrik Jut is still known as a fairground attraction. The municipality has invested a lot to turn the once rundown neighbourhood into an attractive one. And it is paying off: nice cafés and shops are luring more and more shoppers from the well-known shopping streets into the Station neighbourhood.
