A nice neighbourhood for those interested in Viennese Art Nouveau and who like to treat themselves to beautiful things and good food.
If you are looking for a cosy and slightly urban district in Vienna, this is the place to be. Between Wiedner Hauptstraße and Naschmarkt lies the lively Freihausviertel. The former working-class district is bubbling with creative initiatives. There are designer boutiques, a fifties film house and many cafés. Street names like Mühlgasse recall the days when there were canals and mills here. Adjacent to the district is the imposing Karlskirche and next to it the Wien Museum, about the city's history. At Advent, the square turns into a fairytale Christmas market. Nearby is the Musikverein, one of the best concert halls in the world.
