Josefstadt is fun if you like a student-like atmosphere. It is teeming with cafés and restaurants, just like Yppenplatz.
This is your district if you are looking for a cosy neighbourhood full of good food. The posh Josefstadt district used to be called the civil servants' widows' quarter. Interestingly, the neighbourhood consisted of fields and vineyards until the mid-17th century. Many students, young families and somewhat older, well-to-do Viennese live here, enjoying the village atmosphere. There are plenty of cafés, restaurants, galleries and unusual boutiques. On the square in front of the neo-Gothic Rathaus there is always something going on, from film nights to ice skating. From Josefstadt, you can be at the colourful Yppenplatz in no time, surrounded by a large market with an exotic flair where you can eat and drink.
