El Raval is a favourite with artists, bohemians and hipsters.
If you want to be among artists, El Raval is the place to be. For decades, this neighbourhood was known as dangerous, but that changed in the 1990s. Dilapidated blocks were demolished and more and more students, artists and bohemians discovered the neighbourhood. Now El Raval offers plenty of art and culture, from Gaudí to street art. The square in front of the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) contemporary art museum is a meeting point for skaters. The surrounding streets are home to popular restaurants and quaint shops. In the old courtyard of the Antic Hospital de la Santa Creu, you can taste the rich history of the district.
