Noord is the place to be for great parties and festivals, creative start-ups and laid-back hangouts.
If you’re looking for the city’s rawest and most urban area, Noord is the place to be. Ten years ago, there was nothing to see here. These days, the ferries are crammed with trendy types as they shuttle back and forth across the IJ. You’ll find Europe’s largest flea market, the EYE Film Museum, industrial-style cafés and restaurants, and vintage homeware shops. There’s plenty to see here. Noord is the Brooklyn of Amsterdam and is appearing on more and more lists of the world’s trendiest neighbourhoods. Here, they can still think outside the box: no neat little terraces, but proper gardens and beaches, where you won’t be bothered by hordes of tourists or trams rushing past.
