The area now known as Nieuw Zuid is a brand-new neighbourhood along the Scheldt, featuring modern homes, galleries and impressive architecture. Life in the neighbourhood is slowly getting into its stride, giving it a quiet, up-and-coming atmosphere. The range of amenities is still limited, but what’s on offer is fantastic: from trendy restaurants to creative galleries. In the past, the area between ’t Zuid and Harmonie was also called Nieuw Zuid, but that area is now known as Brederode. This is the place to be for anyone who loves the alternative and less touristy side of Antwerp; Nieuw Zuid is very much in keeping with the times.
