The modernist residential district of L'Eixample is one big open-air museum. Architecture freaks will feast their eyes.
L'Eixample is your district if you like (luxury) shopping and if you like chic dining and architecture. The district is the cradle of Catalan modernism. It is home to the Sagrada Família and other famous buildings by architect Antoni Gaudí and his contemporaries. The district dates from the late 19th, early 20th century and was designed according to the idea of city planner Ildefons Cerdà. A true residential district, L'Eixample is characterised by distinguished avenues, wide streets, luxury shops and elegant restaurants and clubs. The district is divided into a left and a right part, which converge on Passeig de Gràcia, the most expensive street in the country.
