Perfect neighbourhoods if you want to wander around Lisbon's small alleys to discover the most beautiful authentic spots.
For authentic Lisbon, this is the place to be. The city originated on the Tagus River. You'll find the old fishing quarter Alfama, famous for its fado restaurants and the Castelo de São Jorge with stunning views over the city. Here you can still enjoy wandering through the maze of narrow alleys and old staircases. The authentic tram 28 takes you to Alfama, Castelo and Graça, where several miradouros (viewpoints) can be found. The famous Feira da Ladra, a flea market, also takes place on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and there are numerous pavement cafés, restaurants and bars for a nice break on your exploration of these cosy neighbourhoods.
