Lisbon should be high on your wish list if you’re looking for a varied city break. This is thanks to the diversity of its neighbourhoods – ranging from authentic to trendy and modern – as well as its cultural attractions and numerous parks. But also because Lisbon is a perfect city for shopping, and you can relax on one of the surrounding beaches, for example in the seaside resort of Cascais, an old fishing village. Of course, Portuguese food and drink are also a major draw; be sure to try a portion of grilled sardines – but only from May to August, as that’s the only time they’re really fresh.
