Visit this beautiful neighbourhood, popular with tourists and locals alike. A must: taste the famous pastéis de belém!
Belém is the place for you if you prefer to visit Lisbon from a quiet but culture-laden district. The riverside promenade is a nice walk. From here, Portuguese explorers set off on their journey by sea. The many museums and monuments from the Golden Age are reminders of this and you can soak up the history everywhere in this neighbourhood. Besides historical buildings, palaces and great views, it is also home to the famous pastéis de Belém: puff pastries with cream, cinnamon and sugar. After all the sightseeing, be sure to drop by the park, where you'll see many Portuguese families picnicking.
