Príncipe Real is the district for lovers of fancy boutiques and culture. Bairro Alto is the place to be for nightlife.

This is your district if you want to be in the bohemian heart of the city. Príncipe Real is Lisbon's artistic neighbourhood: popular with designers and entrepreneurs, who start hip designer shops and restaurants there. It is a green neighbourhood with the botanical garden, Príncipe Real park and the Embaixada shopping gallery, entirely in Moorish style. Bairro Alto is Lisbon's working-class neighbourhood. It means 'high district'. Today it is a more alternative neighbourhood with tattoo shops, fado cafés, designer shops and trendy pubs. At night, this district is popular among young people for its vibrant atmosphere, which is mainly outdoors.
