If you like lively neighbourhoods with a village-like atmosphere, then La Croix-Rousse is the place to be. This neighbourhood is known for its hustle and bustle: people enjoy working here. You’ll notice this straight away at the daily neighbourhood market, the Marché de la Croix-Rousse, which plays a big part in creating the atmosphere. Traditionally, this has been the neighbourhood of the silk weavers, who used to work on their creations here. You can learn all about this history at the Maison des Canuts. You’ll also see some remarkable murals in this neighbourhood, such as those by Mur des Canuts and Association Mur 69; the latter is updated every year. Don’t forget to visit the Jardin du Gros Caillou, a park with a superb view.
