The courtyard at Porto Fluviale (a former warehouse) is one of my favourite spots for an aperitivo.
If you’re looking for trendy, urban Rome, this is the place to be. The Ostiense neighbourhood, centred around Via Ostiense, is a former industrial area that once housed the gas storage facility, amongst other things. Ostiense is getting trendier by the day, with plenty of bars and restaurants and stunning street art (my favourite is ‘Hunting Pollution’). The Centrale Montemartini museum is definitely not to be missed. The district Ostiense is larger and also includes the Garbatella neighbourhood. This neighbourhood, dating from the 1920s, is much loved! Lots of low-rise buildings, plenty of green spaces and, here too, lots of street art and lovely bars. Initially, many residents from the city centre ended up here after their homes were demolished during Mussolini’s building spree.
