For the historic heart of the city, head to Ciutat Vella. As you wander through the maze of narrow streets, you’ll come across several large squares. Here you’ll find beautiful palaces and churches dating from prosperous periods in the city’s history, as well as numerous museums. There’s plenty of street art to be seen in the backstreets. This art form is taught at the Universitat de València, and many students have left their mark here. Around the beautiful market hall of the Mercado Central de Valencia, there are plenty of tapas restaurants where, after a long walk, you can settle down to rest a while and sample some local dishes.
