Want to get to know the other Venice? Then come to Cannaregio and discover the romantic canals behind the busy Strada Nuova.
Cannaregio has two faces. Most tourists often get no further than the Strada Nuova, the busy shopping street between the train station and the Ponte di Rialto. However, you will also find the Ghetto, the oldest Jewish quarter in the world. To the north lies an enchanting neighbourhood with the city's most beautiful canals. On the Fondamenta della Misericordia are many restaurants, ideal for balmy summer evenings. At the back of the neighbourhood, you hardly meet any people. Here stands the beautiful Chiesa di Santa Maria dei Madonna dell'Orto, with its tomb and paintings by Tintoretto.
