Take a boat trip to these three islands and discover the magic of the Venetian lagoon.
Murano is the largest island in the lagoon and is known as the glassmaker's island. Due to fire hazards, all furnaces and glass blowers were transferred from Venice to Murano in 1291. Murano glass was famous throughout Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries. Now the glass is less exclusive, but glassblowing is still practised here; you can also see demonstrations of it. Burano was traditionally the island of lace. Now it is a village with colourful houses. On tranquil Torcello, you can visit the famous Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta.
