San Marco is home to major sights, palazzos and exclusive shops. Be sure to take a boat trip on the Grand Canal.
If you come for architectural and cultural treasures, San Marco is the district for you. This used to be not only the cultural centre, but also a popular residential area, with beautiful palazzi (mansions) and the Grand Canal. Now, not many Venetians live in this district and it is mostly tourists who stay here. You will find Piazza San Marco and the Palazzo Ducale. Shopping is also good: in the little streets between Rialto and Piazza San Marco, or - for top Italian brands - between Piazza San Marco and Campo Santo Stefano. A nice part of the district is between Campo Santo Stefano, Campo Sant'Angelo and Teatro La Fenice.
