Oude Dokken

The Oude Dokken neighbourhood is situated close to Dampoort station and comprises Ghent’s three oldest harbour docks: the Handelsdok, the Houtdok and the Achterdok. The three docks fell into disuse because, by the end of the last century, they had become too small for the ever-larger ships. The city had to find a new use for the area and opted for a mixed-use residential and commercial neighbourhood. The neighbourhood is still partly under construction, but that hasn’t stopped entrepreneurs in the hospitality sector: great places to eat and drink are springing up here like mushrooms. The residents of this neighbourhood are mainly young professionals and young families.
