What a great way to get a breath of fresh air along the quays of the Old Docks.
The Oude Dokken district is close to Dampoort station and comprises Ghent's three oldest harbour docks: the Handelsdok, the Houtdok and the Achterdok. The three docks fell into disuse because by the end of the last century they had become too small for the ever-growing ships. The city had to look for a new use for the area and opted for a residential and commercial district. The neighbourhood is still partly under construction, but that did not stop entrepreneurs in the catering industry: nice eating and drinking addresses are popping up here like mushrooms. The inhabitants of this neighbourhood are mainly young workers and young families.
