In Vyšehrad you can find peace and quiet. Go out and shop in the New Town.
Located high on a cliff above the Vltava River, the Vyšehrad fortress is an oasis of tranquillity. From the city, you can recognise the fortress by the two neo-Gothic spires of St Peter & Paul's Church. Czechs like to come here on weekends to walk or picnic. The New Town is the modern heart of the old town. You will find restaurants, theatres, cinemas and shops here. The centrepiece is Wencelas Square, which was once the scene of some crucial political events, such as the start of the Velvet Revolution. In the old shopping arcades, you can feel the atmosphere of days gone by and find nice specialty shops, bars and theatres.
