Vyšehrad is the perfect place to unwind. For nightlife and shopping, head to the New Town.
Vyšehrad Fortress stands high on a rock above the Vltava River and is an oasis of tranquillity. From the city, you can recognise the fortress by the two neo-Gothic spires of St Peter and Paul’s Church. Czechs love to come here at the weekend for a walk or a picnic. The New Town is the modern heart of the old town centre. Here you’ll find restaurants, theatres, cinemas and shops. At its centre is Wenceslas Square, which was once the scene of a number of crucial political events, such as the start of the Velvet Revolution. In the old shopping arcades, you can soak up the atmosphere of bygone days and discover charming specialist shops, bars and theatres.
