The Centro Storico is a lovely mix of charming squares, chaotic traffic, atmospheric streets and magnificent monuments.
This is the place to be if you want to experience the heart of the city. The historic centre is brimming with monuments. The ancient Pantheon is one of the city’s most impressive sights. Despite being over 1,900 years old, it still looks absolutely magnificent. A little further on lies Piazza Navona, a square built on the site of an ancient Roman athletics stadium. The streets and small squares surrounding these attractions are lined with terraces. The market square, Campo dei Fiori, is particularly lively. A special place in the city centre is the Ghetto. Despite its dark past – for centuries the Pope kept innocent Jews isolated there – it is now one of the city’s most atmospheric neighbourhoods.
