If you fancy taking a breather in a park every now and then during your city break, this is the ideal neighbourhood. From the hilltop Parque Eduardo VII, you have views over the hills of Lisbon. Where the park ends, the upmarket Avenida da Liberdade begins, where Portugal’s affluent middle classes do their shopping. Here you’ll find mainly hotels, luxury shops, upmarket restaurants and kiosks. You can then take the Elevador do Lavra to cross the hill to the east. This takes you through the Largo do Intendente and the Praça Martim Moniz into the Mouraria neighbourhood. This is Lisbon’s most multicultural neighbourhood, as is clearly evident from the many Asian shops.
