Lisbon may be high on your wish list if you are looking for a versatile city break. This is thanks to its diversity of neighbourhoods - from authentic to hip and modern - as well as its cultural attractions and many parks. But also because Lisbon is a perfect city for shopping and you can catch your breath on one of its surrounding beaches, for example in the seaside resort of Cascais, an old fishing village. Of course, Portuguese food and drink is also a major draw; be sure to try a portion of grilled sardines - but from May to August, because only then are they really fresh.
